Fresh Club Night

A Club night run by DJ's with learning disabilities and autistic DJ's since 1998.

Fresh Club Night takes place on the 1st Thursday of each month

Performing Arts Academy at The Customs House


Come along to our Open Day to find out more about our fun and friendly Performing Arts Academy at The Customs House in South Shields.


The academy is a great opportunity for people with learning disabilities and autistic people to develop skills in writing, acting and directing, and to perform on stage at The Customs House.

Journey into the unknown

A new play by Spectrum Theatre Group


Step into a steampunk odyssey of time travel and self-discovery.
Tick Tick Whenever follows a group of extraordinary adventurers as they journey through fractured timelines and alternate realities. This powerful new play, written and performed by artists with learning disabilities and autistic artists, ventures into the unknown to uncover heartfelt moments that explore vulnerability, resilience, and triumph over adversity.


Spectrum Theatre group is funded by Newcastle Culture Investment Fund at the Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland, and supported by Northern Stage.

Dregs Opera

A new play by Sunderland Platform Theatre Group


The Twisting Ducks Theatre Company returns with an ambitious performance, Dregs Opera, a musical based on the true story of historic local queer figure, Alonzo Johnson, who was deported to Australia and condemned to death because of his sexuality.


Presented as an adaptation of Gay’s Beggar’s Opera and Brecht’s Threepenny Opera, the musical challenges audiences to consider marginalised voices and the horrors of discrimination, past and present. Dregs Opera is a new, original work written and performed by artists with learning disabilities and autistic artists.


Sunderland Platform theatre group is funded by The Grocers' Charity, Hadrian Trust, Joicey Trust and Washington Heritage Partnership, and supported by Sunderland Culture.

Performing Arts workshop:

Independence, choice and control 


A creative workshop for groups of people with learning disabilities and autistic people aged 16+.


Work with performers and facilitators from The Twisting Ducks Theatre Company to explore themes of independence, choice and control through performing arts activities.


Participants will watch scenes from The Twisting Ducks performance Back by 8 and using creative techniques and forum theatre the group will explore how the characters deal with issues around getting the right support to do the things they want to do.


2-hour workshop for Schools, Sixth Form Colleges, and groups of people with learning disabilities and autistic people aged 16+


Free, booking required

The workshop will be delivered in your setting.
